Children's Song Tops All Entrants in Dallas Songwriter's Contest Lanny Sherwin's children's tune, "I Can't Rhyme", beat out all Pop, Rock, Country, and R & B categories to win the Grand Prize in the Dallas Songwriter's Association Song Contest. Santa Barbara, CA (PRWEB) June 6, 2010 -- Who says kid's songs have to be boring, rinky-tinky, mind-numbing pablum? Not Lanny Sherwin, singer-songwriter from Santa Barbara, CA. His clever children's song, "I Can't Rhyme", won the Grand Prize in the Dallas Songwriter's Associations' annual Song Contest. This is the 1st time in the DSA's history that a Children's Category song took Overall honors beating out all Pop, Rock, Country, and R & B entrants. Sherwin, who is President of Sandman Records and has released 5 children's CDs, also took 1-2-3 in the Children's Category. Those winning songs were "I Can't Rhyme", "Stinky Feet", and "A Cappella". "Although I'm totally shocked by winning the overall prize," says Sherwin, "It does confirm that the kind of grown-up music I try to write for kids is working." Sandman Record's motto is "Don't Drive Parents Crazy!" Perhaps that explains why Sherwin has won over 50 songwriting awards. Among the DSA Grand Prize winnings was a $1,000 Tradition S200 Gold Top electric guitar featuring a pair of PAF humbucker pickups. "It's a gorgeous guitar," Sherwin says. "I can't wait to crank it up!" "I Can't Rhyme" twists the "writer's block" stereotype sideways and portrays a songwriter who has rhymer's block: "I think I caught a strange disease, Maybe got stung by a hive of ... wasps. I can't make rhymes anymore, Feels like someone closed the ... window."
