Lanny Sherwin continues to perform for children in Santa Barbara, CA ... children who might not otherwise be able to get out and hear live music. Thanks to grants from the Santa Barbara Bowl Foundation and The Writer Family Foundation, he coordinates a series of concert performances for children in Cottage Hospital and for two special needs classes at Hollister Elementary School.
The concert series is part of Pickleberry Pie, a childrens' music nonprofit of which Lanny is a board member.
"I've been participating in the Los Angeles Pickleberry Pie program for a couple of years and wanted to establish something similar in Santa Barbara," says Sherwin, a Santa Barbara resident.
Sherwin and three other performers rotate each month to play for children in the common area on the Pediatrics floor, NICU, in clinics, and in individual rooms of the hospital. Santa Barbara's Putnam Gillespie ("Putnee") and Dave Kinnoin and Dan Crow of Los Angeles are the other performers.
The Pickleberry Pie Hospital Concert Series is a program sponsored by Pickleberry Pie, Inc.
Lanny is President Of Sandman Records, a children's record label whose 50 music awards he attributes to his company's motto: "Don't Drive Parents Crazy!" his label contributes to several nonprofits nationwide.
As he explains, "Music is such a great way to reach across cultures, ages, and genders. It's a delight to see the kids' faces light up when we come in to perform. And the music is enjoyed by families, nurses, and staff, as well -- they all need a much-deserved break!"
